Steven Weinstock and Glenda Hersh Named Co-Presidents and Co-CEOs of True Entertainment and Original Media
March 30, 2015 - Steven Weinstock and Glenda Hersh have been named Co-Presidents and Co-CEOs of Endemol Shine North America subsidiary production companies True Entertainment and Original Media. The announcement was made today by Charlie Corwin and Cris Abrego, Co-CEOs and Co-Chairmen, Endemol Shine North America.
Weinstock and Hersh, who co-founded True Entertainment in 2000 (the company was acquired by Endemol in 2003), and have developed numerous hit unscripted series including “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” for Bravo, “Season 25: Oprah Behind the Scenes” for OWN and “Vanity Fair Confidential” for ID, will now add oversight of Original Media. Founded in 2002 by Corwin and subsequently acquired by Endemol in 2007, Original Media is behind such hits as “Swamp People” and “Ink Master.”
True Entertainment and Original Media, which are both based in New York City, will continue to operate as separate entities, retaining their own respective development and production teams, as well as their own brands. Daniel Laikind, who has served as CEO of Original Media since January 2013, has stepped down from his role and will serve as a consultant during the transition.
"Our company has always been one to invest in and promote strong talent from within, a philosophy both of us have benefitted from," said Corwin and Abrego, who also sold his company 51 Minds to Endemol. "Glenda and Steven have successfully built True Entertainment into one of the most respected production companies in our industry and they are perfectly suited to add oversight of Original Media’s talented development and production teams and roster of hit series."
Hersh and Weinstock said, “We are excited to work with the talented team at Original whose long-standing, successful shows compellingly highlight unique worlds, characters and subcultures. True’s productions and its creative team also have had tremendous success, and we are honored to be overseeing two distinct, prolific and independent shops as each continues to produce bigger and better programming.”
Focusing on documentary and alternative programming, True Entertainment uses powerful storytelling to bring real stories about real people to television audiences around the world. Current True series include “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” “Love Lust or Run” and “Vanity Fair Confidential.” In 2003 and 2006, True won Emmy Awards for “A Baby Story”; the series was also nominated for Emmys in 2004, 2005 and 2007. True also earned a 2003 nomination for “110 Stories” and an Emmy and three nominations for “Trauma: Life in the ER.”
Founded in 2002, Original Media is an independent production company specializing in unique series for television. The company has built a strong reputation for cutting-edge content and quality production including current unscripted series such as “Ink Master” for Spike, “Dual Survival” for Discovery and “Swamp People” for History. Former Original Media series include “The Rachel Zoe Project,” “BBQ Pitmasters,” “Storm Chasers” and the NBC drama “The Philanthropist.”
