Flavio Morales Was Named Executive Vice President, Endemol Shine Latino, U.S. Initiatives
November 11, 2015 - Flavio Morales has been named Executive Vice President, Endemol Shine Latino, U.S. Initiatives, it was announced today by Cris Abrego and Charlie Corwin, Co-Chairmen and Co-CEOs of Endemol Shine North America.
Morales, a longtime Telemundo programming executive, will develop unscripted, scripted and digital content aimed at the U.S. Hispanic/English-speaking marketplace. Morales is based in Los Angeles and will work closely with the Endemol Shine Latino team in Miami.
As recently announced, Laurens Drillich, currently CEO of Endemol Shine Netherlands, will become President of Endemol Shine Latino in early 2016, reporting to both Abrego and Corwin.
Endemol Shine Latino, which currently covers the company’s Spanish-language sales and production in the U.S., Mexico and all will additionally cover all of Latin America in 2016, is set to launch “Gran Hermano” with Telemundo in January and its first scripted drama “El Vato” for NBCUniverso next year.
“Flavio brings a wealth of experience as both a producer and as a programming executive to our team,” says Endemol Shine’s Abrego and Corwin. “He’s already off and running, developing original content aimed at the English-speaking U.S. Hispanic marketplace—an area we believe has been left largely untapped.”
“I feel fortunate to be a part of an amazing company,” says Morales. “I look forward to collaborating and innovating with Cris, Charlie, Laurens and the entire Endemol Shine familia.”
Most recently Morales was EVP at BIG VIDA Entertainment, where he oversaw production of the NCLR ALMA Awards, along with executive producer Eva Longoria and he produced the Gerardo Ortiz concert film “Como Un Sueno.”
Previously, he was a top programming executive at NBCUniversal’s Telemundo’s cable network mun2 (now NBCUniverso), where he spent nearly a decade developing the network’s bilingual/millennial programming mix of series including hits “I Love Jenni,” “Fugitivos de la Ley” and “Larrymania.” While at mun2, Morales helped lead the network to the top of the U.S. Hispanic cable network ratings, ending Galavision’s 30-year run.
Under Morales’ leadership, mun2’s creative content received extensive industry recognition including a Peabody Award, validating the network’s innovative original programming strategy. In 2008, Morales was honored with a prestigious NAMIC Vision Award, which celebrates and recognizes the cable industry’s commitment to quality and diversity, and in 2009, he was selected as one of Multichannel News’ 40 Under 40 visionaries.
Prior to joining mun2, Morales served as Director of Programming and Music for LATV, of which he was also a founding member. Before joining LATV, Morales held several positions in media, specifically in music, television, advertising and event promotions.
He was advertising giant Wieden & Kennedy’s Latino liaison working on Miller Genuine Draft and part of the winning team for Advertising Age’s first Hispanic Ad competition in 1999.
Morales, a Los Angeles native, began creating programming for bicultural Latinos in
high school when he formed “ILLEGAL Interns,” a public access show in East LA which showcased music, film, poetry, comedy and political activism. The show received critical acclaim and its programming was displayed at The Geffen Museum of Modern Art.
He’s currently part of the advisory board for NALIP (National Association of Latino Independent Producers), a board member for the Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory and a member of the PGA. Morales lives in South Pasadena with his wife Laura and kids Elias and Alexa.
